Justin and Mariah contacted me the month they found out they were expecting. This was their first baby and they had done a lot of research and preparation beforehand and wanted to make sure they got everything in the books right away.
Mariah had a wonderful and healthy pregnancy and at her 20 week anatomy scan they found out they were having a BOY! They broke my streak, as my last 6 births had been girls!
Before we knew it August was here: Due month had arrived. I got a call early Monday morning around 2am that Mariah thought her water had broken. I grabbed my bags and after she confirmed it was her water we all headed to the hospital. I arrived a little before them and when the elevator door opened Mariah, her hubby Justin and doula Evangeline walked out. She was calm and quiet. We were buzzed into the L&D unit and walked to the nurses station. I watched from down the hall as Justin very tenderly placed his hand on her back, I love seeing how different husbands care and comfort their wives.
We got into the room and after they got settled the nurse came in and checked to see how Mariah was doing. I was so excited for her as the nurse told her she was 8cm. How exciting to check in and already be most the way there!
Justin and Evangeline were so quiet and calming. I don’t think I’ve ever been in such a silent birth space. Mariah is naturally a quieter person, and getting to see couples work as a team, together, is always such a beautiful thing. Evangeline helped massage and push on pressure points while Justin prayed over Mariah. Witnessing a man pray over his wife is always an amazing sight.
Not long later their sweet son, Ethan, was born and placed into his mothers arms. Dad cut the cord after it had emptied and on that day, August 3rd at 4:49am, they officially became a family of 3.
