I still remember the moment when Katie contacted me. Being a fellow birth photographer, I knew her name and had seen a lot of her work. Being asked to capture a fellow photographer is always a huge gift, and being invited to ones birth space is even more special. Katie and Weston were expecting their 4th child. This is the story of a rainbow baby, and they weren’t expecting this sweet child after just the loss of a pregnancy, but after more heartbreak than I can bear to fathom. Their story and journey isn’t one I can begin to put words to, but Katie did and if you have a… Keep Reading
Last summer I had the unique and exciting opportunity to document the process behind placenta encapsulation. We don’t have many doulas in our area that specialize in placenta care and I was so honored to watch and capture Amber’s work. Amber is one of our local doulas I have had the pleasure of working a few births with. She is the owner of Belly to Cradle and Pensacola Placentas. I first met her over two years ago at a birth, and then again when we got together to talk birth and for me to grab some headshots of her. She’s a wife, mom, doula, placenta care worker, and from what I can tell… Keep Reading
Kelly and Mario had a beautiful little boy this past year. He was long awaited and hoped for. After meeting in person at our maternity session and hearing more of their story I was so excited to get to be part of their journey into parenthood. Kelly’s mom flew over for the birth and was here with them when her grandson joined the world. While I wasn’t allowed back for the cesarean at this birth I gave Mario few pointers while setting up the camera and he did a wonderful job of grabbing some first shots while in the OR. It didn’t take long for Kelly’s mom and I to join them in… Keep Reading
I thought I would share a little #LifeBehindTheLens update. Some already know, or have seen me in the grocery store and have become curious, but we ourselves are expecting a little addition later this fall. Before I tackle the evening crazy of making sure my kids really DID brush their teeth and then rummaging my kindergartener’s backpack for the endless parent paperwork, I thought I’d give that little tidbit of info to all you amazing people out there that are, like myself, fans of birth and the beauty that surrounds that part of our world. Every like, comment, and share makes my heart feel so encouraged and I can’t thank you… Keep Reading
This little girl was born into an amazing and loving family and it was such a joy to be asked to come and capture them during the start of them growing to a family of four.
I was originally going to be attending this little cuties birth but things didn’t go quite as planned and she had a stint in the NICU after an early birthday. Her mom and dad practically lived at Sacred Heart for a while and once little Leighton got released and settled in at home we finally got to meet. She was an absolute dream during my visit. She was as quiet as a mouse, just taking in all the surroundings, which I can’t blame her, wait until you see how cute her nursery is! Meet Leighton and her parents, who were so excited to be home with their baby girl.
This is the first glimpse into a new series I have been dreaming on for a while. It came to reality because of how quickly time is fleeting before my own eyes. My own brief experience into motherhood, so far, quickly went from one little girl to two daughters in less than two years. My babies are now toddlers and somehow one is starting Kindergarten this fall. After having a child I found my focus of photography by capturing birth stories. I find myself documenting these amazing and beautiful stories, from maternity, birth, newborn, and now into the life of mothering at home. So much has happened in this short amount of time since becoming… Keep Reading
I got the call around 11pm on October 31st. It was storming like crazy outside, in true Halloween spirit. Robin was in active labor and they were headed to the hospital. Her doula gave me a call to let me know how Robin was doing, and I made the decision to run home (I was next door watching a movie with my sister) and grab my go-bag to leave. Their little boy was born that next day on November 1st. Fast forward 1 week and I made a visit to their home for a sweet newborn session. He had already grown so much since first being placed in his moms arms just 7 days… Keep Reading
I got the call that mom was in labor while watching a movie at my sisters house (who also just so happens to be my next door neighbor, #BestDecisionEver). We had put the kids to bed after a wet and rainy evening of trick or treating in our neighborhood and then visiting our church trunk-or-treat. I ran through the downpour outside and grabbed my bag and headed out the door to meet the parents and their doula at the hospital. They arrived around 11pm and got settled into the L&D room. Mom labored naturally and had a long night ahead of walking, swaying, and everything else she could do to manage pain and rest… Keep Reading
A beautiful home birth from October. This family waited until babies debut to find out the gender and they were so surprised when they welcomed their first little boy after having 3 girls before him. The day was filled with family, reading scripture and at the end, welcoming a son into his home. Congratulations again, Franklin family. I loved being there with you during this exciting and special time. [Disclaimer: some photos in the video aren’t accurate representations of the real photos. A lot of black and white images got discolored and pixelated by my video software, especially in the beginning of the video – I’m currently on the hunt… Keep Reading
A sweet, little, lifestyle newborn session I got to do for one of my amazing birth mom’s. Baby Mira is a gem and was an absolute delight to shoot. You are so very loved, little girl. You have no idea how much.
When I first met with Kendall and her hubby I could tell they had been researching and preparing for this exciting time. Kendall had already booked her date with our local birth center and was planning a home birth. They actually lived near where my husband and I had our first apartment together. She had all her questions written out, which I myself do when I’m meeting with someone. They live on a road that has a family name where her grandparents and parents live. They are a close family and I love getting to see and hear about families that have that special bond. Especially when a baby is… Keep Reading
