Due dates – what a silly notion. I like to call them guesstimates. A 4 week window is a lot of time to a woman at the end of her pregnancy.
This momma experienced that post-due date waiting. She was due on Labor Day, it came and went. Then, 2 days later, while at work she had the ever exciting start to active labor.
They went to the hospital and after a little time laboring there were sent home when she was still 1cm. Steph and her hubby stopped and grabbed some dinner, went home and she got in the tub. Not 5 minutes later she was calling for Brian to come get her out of the tub and into the car. With only her bathrobe and slippers on they made their way back into the same hospital room and found her to be 8cm along!
On my side of town I went to bed around 11 knowing it could be any day now that Steph calls me to say it’s go time. At 11:30 my phone rings and I answer to hear Brian tell me “We are back at the hospital, she was 8cm when we got here, get her quick!” I’ve never gotten dressed so quickly in my life. I grabbed my bag by the front door and made it to the hospital just after midnight. I ran up to the room to find Stephanie and Brian working together through some of those just before push time contractions. Stephanie’s baby and body were ready, we were now waiting on her midwife.
Her mom got there just before push time.
Stephanie and Brian did a beautiful job bringing their first child, a precious baby boy, into their lives and the world.
