There’s a point in pregnancy, before one gets crazy uncomfortable but after people start staring at your stomach wondering “Is she gaining a few, or is there a baby in there?” that a woman’s belly has a sweet basketball sized bump. That’s the time frame where maternity pictures are most comfortable to take. Mom can still walk without waddling (too much) and your back isn’t screaming at you for standing more than half an hour. Some women don’t have those side effects, and if that’s the case you shouldn’t brag too much for others sake ;)
This shoot was especially fun because I got to see some of the goofy side of dad to be, Jeff. Jeff was in the Army during college and a few weeks after he and Miriah were engaged he got a call that he was being deployed. Their engagement went from a year and a half to 4 days long. They were able to throw together a small family wedding and tie the knot before he was shipped overseas.
Fast forward a few years and here they are, expecting their first child. Military families have a special place in my heart. I can’t imagine going through a pregnancy or delivery without your spouse there with you. It’s one of the things I love about what I do. Giving couples the chance to freeze those moments in time so that dad can be part of them, even if he isn’t there in the room.
Thankfully for these two, dad was able to be there. Being able to do their maternity shoot, and then later their daughters birth, was a special experience.
Thank you, Miriah and Jeff, for being such a blast to work with. Oh, and also for being totally awesome. Yes, that beautiful pregnant gal is my baby sister. Did I forget to mention that ;)
